You have a Facebook profile, but now you've started a business and you have a Facebook page. You know the rules are a little different when it comes to making an impact with your FB page.
You might be lost when it comes to what the heck to say to people who like your page. You might have a few ideas about welcoming people to your page, but keeping the dialog going is another story.
This article will give you five great ideas and walk you through how to reach the goal of creating content that your audience needs, wants and relates to, which will in turn give your posts more engagement.
What Would You Like to Accomplish with Your Page?
It's important to start here, because your goals will help you make decisions when it comes to how you will build your brand. It will also help you determine the page type that will help you reach your goals.
If you don't currently have a Facebook page, you can download a free guide below, that will show you how to set one up.
The goal of your page is to provide a platform on Facebook, the largest social platform on the web. You want your page to be a place where people can learn more about your brand and what it can do to help them.
Facebook gives preference to content that doesn't take users off their platform. So the more interaction and dialog you can have on your page the better.
The best thing about creating a Facebook page is that the posts you place on your page can start conversations with people who are looking for what you offer.
The combination of you, your products, services and opportunity are the things that make up your brand. However to stand out from the crowd you want to emphasize the YOU factor.
5 Things to Post for Trust and Engagement
Here are five powerful ways to build trust and engagement with your audience, while having fun and breaking the ice.
1. Facebook Lives - Going live on Facebook is the fastest way to build the know, like and trust factor with your audience.
The know, like and trust factor is important because it builds your brand. Until your audience gets to know who you are, what you do and whether you're trustworthy, they won't hang around long enough to know how great your business is, or that it would be a blast to do business with you.
Another reason Facebook lives are good is that Facebook shows them before they show other types of content.
The Struggle for Words on a Facebook Live
You might be asking yourself what to say on a Facebook live. This is where research is important. Find out more information about topics your audience cares about.
Use the FB live to put your thoughts, opinions and personal spin on these subjects. This helps your audience to get to know you as a person and it creates rapport.
Ask questions to get engagement with your FB lives. If you're following industry gurus, visit their pages to find out what's going on. What questions are people on their pages asking?
Researching things that people are asking about in groups and using the trends that result from answers you receive is powerful. It's a great way to stay on track with industry trends and the things that are important (the pain points) for people in your target audience.
Another important thing you'll want to do with Facebook lives is stay consistent. Consistency keeps your message front and center and it really does pay off when building your audience!
2. Inspirational or Funny Quotes - Your audience wants to see you as a real person. Make sure your quotes are (1) rated PG, and (2) show your personality.
They can take the form of inspirational videos, quotes branded with your your logo or business name, a picture of you with a quote written on the picture. When using quotes, be sure to give credit to the author.
You never know what people are going through. Let your posts become one of the bright spots in their day. Give your audience a chance to laugh and be inspired.

3. Lifestyle Posts - Show yourself having fun, take pictures with your family doing the things that you always dreamed of doing when you worked your 9 to 5. For example, pictures of you heading out on vacation, pictures showing success stories, or a behind the scenes look at your business.
Ask questions about where you're going or what you're doing. For example, "On the way to ________ for a few days with my family, what are some fun things to do while we're there?
Capture the things in your daily life that your home business allows you to do. For example, taking the kids to the zoo or an amusement park in the middle of the day.
Show your audience the things (events, games, vacations, recitals, etc.) you're able to do now that you're able to have more flexibility in your schedule.
Your page is a place to show your audience how your business has impacted your life, along with the positive side of earning a living from home. At the same time, it's not a place to flaunt your success, or show your audience something that is hyped up or untrue.
So there's a fine balance when you ask questions like "What does time freedom mean to you?" The biggest thing you want to show in lifestyle posts is that you have an attitude of gratitude for everything that has happened in your life, including the opportunities provided by your business.
When posting about your products, think of how your product helped your life and tell your story. Create curiosity around it, and leave out product names.
4. Asking questions - Use the answers to the questions to gather data that tells you about your audience. What do they want and need to know? For example if you're in health and wellness, ask questions like "What motivates you to work out?", Which one works best for you when it comes to losing weight, healthy eating or exercise?" Pay attention to the answers.
Once you have the answers to these questions, you might want to create blog content or a Facebook live that covers that topic. Content could include tips, a YouTube video, a tweet or an educational series about the topic. You can also do just for fun questions, i.e., drop a picture of your ______ below.
5. Fill in the Blank Posts - Fill in the blank posts are great for getting audience engagement. Ask questions like, "If I could have one super power it would be ______.", "My favorite coffee drink is ______.", "My favorite sports team is _____.", "Freedom to me means ______." Make sure the answers are short, simple, one or two words.
Strike a Fine Balance
To grow your business and make the best use of your page, you should maintain a fine balance when it comes to posting content about your products, services and opportunity.
If you're in a network marketing, direct sales, or direct to consumer business, it's better to talk about the "kinds" of products you have. Mention their benefits and how they've helped you or your customers.
Talking about the name brand, showing pictures of the product or hard selling the products or your opportunity can turn people off and run away the people you're trying to build a relationship with.
You've probably heard this before, it's been around for a while, and it's still true today. No one wants to be sold, but everyone loves to buy.
That means that people want to make their own choices about the products and services they purchase. The role of salesperson is more of a consultative role, versus a hard selling role.
Consumers like to do their own research, and that provides you with an excellent opportunity to educate your prospects about what you do, spending very little time talking about specific products.
For example, your page is not the place to "talk people into" joining your opportunity. It is a place to create your brand and let your light shine.
Leave a little mystery for your prospects to figure out. If they are interested, they will ask you for more information. If you tell them everything, they will have no reason to contact you. Again, it's a fine balance.
Make it easy for them to obtain more information if they land on your sales pages.
Your Facebook page is also a great place to post blog post updates, announcements and events that might be of interest to your fans.
Stand Out From the Crowd
What makes your company different from all the other people in your organization that do the same thing you're doing? YOU.
Use your page to distinguish yourself and build relationships that will remain whether someone joins you or not.
Also keep in mind that someone may say no today... and then a few weeks or months down the road, their situation may change and they say the magic word... yes.
So keep those lines of communication open, because things are constantly changing.
Let Curiosity Become Your Friend
When posting about your company or your products, let curiosity be your best friend.
Show results and talk about how your products helped you achieve those results.
If your audience wants more information, make sure there is an easy way for them to contact you on your page.
It can take a while to learn what makes your audience tick. So don't be discouraged if there is not immediate interaction on your page. Stick with it and stay consistent.
