This is a post that I did about many moons ago that still has relevance today with the exception of a few updates that have happened over the years.
Pinterest is still one of my favorite social media sites and now it's become a great place to find lot's of great information, including gift ideas for your besties.
By the way, this is one of my first YouTube videos so don't laugh too hard. It's a blast from the past, but I think it's a great idea that you might want to use for birthdays, graduation, and especially during the holiday season. Take a moment to follow me on Pinterest!
As you have probably discovered, there are so many great things you can do with all those Pinterest boards you've created. I am painfully aware that I have yet to tap into all the functionality available on Pinterest.
However everything changed when looking for a recent birthday gift prompted me to venture onto Pinterest for ideas. As it turned out, I found that another great benefit that most people overlook, lies in using it to find the perfect gift for friends, family and coworkers.
Each time a user sets up a board that displays their favorite things, they are creating a wish list of sorts.
I'm a total fan of Pinterest yet, it's not a site that I visit each day. I'm on periodically and I have a pinning button on my browser which makes it easy to capture and pin at will. It's fun to get on and see some of the interesting things that others have placed on the site.
But beyond randomly pinning and viewing general activity, I really hadn't given Pinterest much thought. I had never taken time to regularly visit the pages of my friends and family. I would just re-pin their funny or interesting content if I saw it on the main page, to one of my boards.
Have You (Like Me) Missed the Boat When It Comes to Pinterest?
If you're like me, you may have missed the boat when it comes to tapping into the capabilities of Pinterest. I will certainly take a second look over the coming weeks to learn more and I'll keep you up to date on what I find. In the meantime, if you're looking for a gift for a coworker, friend or family member and you're not quite sure what to get, you might try visiting the person's Pinterest page for insight.
The reason this is a great idea, is that most people routinely "pin" the things that appeal to them most as they are browsing the web. And most people have a "My Style" or a similar board(s) that is related to their hobbies, fashion, jewelry and household preferences.
There are also links to more information associated with most of the pictures that you can click on to find purchasing information. You can also access the page from your phone when you're shopping to obtain ideas.
This became really apparent to me as I looked at a board I created called "My Style", which I believe is one of the generic boards that Pinterest generates when you sigh up for an account. I created the board when I started on Pinterest and just randomly posted stuff through the year or so that I've been on the site.
When I recently looked at the board, I realized that I had created a pretty extensive, visual catalog of items that I like. I also realized that it might provide insight into other people's preferences as well.
So I created this short video to share the idea with my readers, who might be stumped for ideas for the perfect gift.
If you're not on Pinterest, there's no time like now to create a board or two. With the upcoming holiday season this might be a tool you use often to find the perfect gift for business and personal use. Feel free to share your thoughts or other creative ways of finding gifts that work for you.
Happy Pinning!
