Then you can simply scroll through the options and select your desired business name and launch your business. 

In the old days, you had to get a server, upload an eCommerce system to it, hire someone to customize it according to your needs, and pay to maintain it. the old process was expensive, time-consuming, and the final result was still a slow and ineffective website.

Thankfully, Shopify has simplified the process. You can create your eCommerce store in just a few clicks, and all of the server setup and maintenance is taken care of for you.

You have several options for stocking your store including digital products, print on demand, and drop shipping. 

Let Your Creativity Flourish with Digital Products

Stocking an eCommerce store with digital products begins with creating assets that solve a specific problem or deliver a clear result for your ideal customer. 

Unlike physical inventory, digital products are created once and sold repeatedly, making them one of the most scalable ways to build an online business.

Begin by identifying what your audience is already searching for—this could include templates, guides, checklists, planners, courses, printables, or design assets.

The key is to focus on transformation: what will your customer be able to do, achieve, or understand after using your product?

Once you’ve chosen your product types, the next step is product creation and packaging.

Use tools like Canva, Google Docs, spreadsheets, or design software like Artistly, to build high-quality, user-friendly resources.

Organize your content so it’s easy to consume and immediately actionable. For example, a worksheet should guide users step-by-step, while a template should be plug-and-play.

After creating your product, export it into accessible formats such as PDF, PNG, or editable links (like Canva templates). Make sure your files are clearly labeled and professionally presented—this builds trust and enhances perceived value.

After your products are ready, upload them to your eCommerce platform (such as WooCommerce, Shopify, or Etsy) and structure your store in a way that makes browsing easy.

Group similar products into categories, create compelling product descriptions that highlight benefits (not just features), and include preview images or mockups so customers can visualize what they’re getting.

Pricing should reflect the value and outcome your product delivers, and you can increase your average order value by offering bundles, upsells, or complementary products.

Love to Create Designs? Print on Demand Might Be an Option

Stocking an eCommerce store with print-on-demand (POD) products begins with creating designs that connect with a specific audience and purpose. 

Instead of holding physical inventory, you’re building a library of designs that can be placed on products like t-shirts, tote bags, mugs, journals, and more. Start by identifying themes, niches, or interests your audience already loves—whether that’s entrepreneurship, crafting, seasonal trends, or motivational messages.

The goal is to create designs that people instantly relate to or feel excited to wear, use, or gift.

Once you have your design ideas, focus on creating high-quality, versatile graphics. Use tools like Canva, Artistly, Illustrator, or Procreate to develop clean, scalable designs that can be used across multiple products.

Think beyond a single item—one design can be applied to several products, allowing you to quickly expand your store without starting from scratch each time. For example, a single quote or pattern can be turned into a shirt, tote, mug, sticker, and notebook. This approach helps you “stock” your store efficiently while maintaining a cohesive brand style.

After your designs are ready, upload them to your print-on-demand platform (such as Printify, Printful, or Gelato) and connect them to your eCommerce store.

Choose products that align with your audience’s lifestyle and test a variety of items to see what resonates. When creating listings, use lifestyle mockups and compelling descriptions that highlight how the product fits into your customer’s daily life. Instead of just describing the item, show the outcome—how it makes them feel, what it represents, or how it solves a problem (like gifting or self-expression).

Finally, consistency and expansion are key to building a well-stocked POD store. Regularly add new designs, seasonal collections, and themed bundles to keep your shop fresh and relevant.

Over time, aim to build collections rather than random products—this creates a stronger brand identity and encourages customers to purchase multiple items.

By combining thoughtful design creation with strategic product expansion, you turn your store into a growing catalog of designs that can generate ongoing, scalable income without managing inventory.

Get Familiar with Shopify Dropshipping

A traditional eCommerce model works like this: First, you buy several hundred products, then you wait for them to be delivered, stock them in your garage or a small warehouse, and when someone places an order, you ship them to your customer..

Today, you can integrate your shop by uploading products from a dropshipper, and when your customer places the order, it will be processed by the dropshipper who then ships the items directly to your customers.

No maintaining inventory or shipping products from your garage or basement. Drop shippers have established feeds that can be used, or a direct integration with Shopify that will make it easy to get those products uploaded to your store.

Set up Payments

I highly recommend using Shopify Payments, no matter where you’re based. It allows you to accept various forms of payments, including credit cards, Google Pay, Shopify Pay, and more. You can sign up for Shopify Payments by providing Shopify with your business information, personal details, product information, and bank account number.

Set up Terms and Conditions

Shopify offers handy tools for generating terms and conditions, standard privacy, and return policies. You can access them from Shopify Settings > Legal > scroll down to Refund > Privacy > Terms of Service > Shipping statements section to generate each policy sample.

Offer Free Shipping

If you’re looking to start an online store, I highly recommend that you offer free shipping on your products. You can set this as default from your Shopify account settings. Just remember, you will need to factor this into the price of your items if you want to earn a profit after absorbing the shipping costs.

Go to Shopify Settings > Shipping and delete all shipping zones that are “Domestic”. Next, click the “Add shipping zone.” If you’re offering free shipping, just type that in and then choose “Rest of world” if you’re ok with shipping to other countries. Now go to “Add rate” under the “Price based rates” section and select the ‘Free shipping rate.’

Import Products from Dropshippers

Before you import products into your store from Drop Shippers, customize them with your product names, descriptions, the right photos, and other details like assigning them to collections or adding tags. Trust me when I say that it’s a massive headache to import first and customize later. Just don’t do it.
