If you're ready to get off the Etsy hamster wheel, you have lots of options. We'll show you an option to migrate your shop from Etsy to WordPress.

Once you've made the switch, you have another great option to use the tools we use (you're looking at them now) for blogging, landing pages, sales pages, quizzes, surveys, eCommerce, lead generation, scarcity campaigns, testing and testimonials and a learning (course) platform.

To migrate your shop from Etsy to Thrive Suite, you'll need the WordPress platform.

The great news is that once you've exported your shop using the tools below, you can import it into WordPress, a free open source platform. Even more great news!

Since Thrive Suite is a set of tools for WordPress, you can use WooCommerce, another free plugin to handle the actual shop and product functionality.

From Etsy to WordPress, a Three-Step Process

The migration process begins with exporting your product data from Etsy into a CSV file. Next you will build a self hosted WordPress site.  Once you're on WordPress, you'll be able to import your Etsy CSV file into a new self-hosted WordPress site that has WooCommerce and Thrive Suite installed.

To migrate from Etsy to WordPress, download your product data as a CSV file from Etsy and use a WordPress/WooCommerce plugin like the WooCommerce CSV Import or a more robust integration tool like Common Ninja or ExportFeed to import the listings into your new WooCommerce store.

Alternatively, some plugins use the Etsy API to directly import your entire shop inventory, or you can use a third-party migration service that connects both platforms.

Why Move from Etsy to WordPress?

With WordPress, you gain full control over your business, including site design, content, SEO, and customer experience — with no competing listings or marketplace fees.

1. Export Your Etsy Data

  • Export from Etsy: Log in to your Etsy account and go to your shop manager. Find the option to download your active listings data as a CSV file, which will contain product details, images, and more.
  • 2. Choose a Migration Method

You have several options for importing your data into WordPress (which typically involves the WooCommerce plugin for e-commerce):

    • CSV Import Plugins:
      How it works:
      • On your newly installed WordPress site, download a CSV import plugin for WooCommerce, then upload your Etsy CSV file to map product fields to your WooCommerce product fields.
      • Pros: Often a free and straightforward method for basic imports.
      • Cons: May require manual editing of the CSV for categories, SKUs, or image files, and image handling can be inconsistent.

    • API-Based Importer Plugins:
      How it works:
      • Install a plugin that connects directly to your Etsy shop via the API, allowing it to automatically import your entire shop's inventory, including images, categories, and tags.
      • Pros: Automates the entire import process and can sync new products automatically.
      • Cons: Requires creating an Etsy API key through the Etsy Developer portal, which needs a bit more technical effort.

    • Third-Party Migration Services:
      • How it works: Services like Cart2Cart and LitExtension offer automated migration tools that connect your Etsy store and target WooCommerce site to migrate your product data for you.
      • Pros: Full-service migration, including potentially syncing orders and other data.
      • Cons: These are typically paid services.

The Biggest Benefit of Moving to WordPress

One of the biggest benefits of migrating from Etsy to WordPress is owning your platform and brand identity. When you run your business on Etsy, you’re essentially renting space in a crowded marketplace where competitors are only a click away and your visibility depends on Etsy’s search algorithm.

Step 3: Set up Your WordPress Site

With WordPress you can build a recognizable brand, integrate your own online store using tools like WooCommerce, and create automated marketing systems that grow your audience independently.

    • Choose a web host and domain name. You will need a custom domain and a hosting provider to install WordPress. Watch our video for step by step instructions.
    • Install WordPress. Use our free video to install WordPress in 15 minutes. Watch our video tutorial to install WordPress.

    • Install and connect Thrive Suite. Purchase and install Thrive Suite from your WordPress dashboard. Watch this video to get started with Thrive Suite.

Thrive Theme Builder, one of the tools in the suite, has a one-click integration with WooCommerce that allows you to customize your new shop's look and feel.
    • Import your CSV file to WooCommerce. Use a WordPress/WooCommerce plugin like the WooCommerce CSV Import or a more robust integration tool like Common Ninja or ExportFeed to import the listings into your new WooCommerce store. Alternatively, some plugins use the Etsy API to directly import your entire shop inventory, or you can use a third-party migration service that connects both platforms.

    Important Considerations

    • Manual Edits: Be prepared to make some manual edits to product descriptions, categories, and potentially SKUs, as some import methods are not perfect.
    • Image Handling: Image files may not always be imported with proper SEO-friendly names or alt tags, requiring manual adjustments.
    • Support: If you encounter technical issues, ensure the plugin or service you're using comes from a reliable source that provides support.
