When starting and growing a thriving business, it's important to make it a priority to get (and stay) organized and productive. This post is about how to get your business organized for success.

You're in business to make money and anything that is not leading you to that goal is a waste of time. There are a lot of distractions, limiting beliefs and shiny objects that can take you off track, causing you to lose focus and go down a path that leads to staying broke and going nowhere.

In this post we'll give you ten tips to help you organize your business and stay productive all year long.

1. Set Clear Goals

Define your short-term and long-term goals. This will set the tone for content creation, income generating activities and every aspect of your business.

Spending time and focusing on your goals gives you a clear direction and purpose for your work. If you need help setting goals, check out our article on setting SMART goals for your business.

2. Prioritize Daily, Weekly and Monthly Tasks

Identify the tasks that must happen each day as well as tasks that should only occur on a weekly or monthly basis.

Next, label each task starting with the most important tasks and prioritize them.

So for example, you will want to focus most of the tasks that have a direct impact on your ability to earn money. After all that's why you're in business, right?

Identifying the tasks that lead to sales and focusing on those as your highest priority can help you learn what works (or not) and maximizes your ability earn more throughout the year.

Next consider your email list as a way to earn money as well. If you haven't started building a list, now is the time to get started.

What tasks are required (on your end) for your business to generate leads? What can you set up to make it easy for visitors to take the next step? Do you have a lead magnet? If not, make those kinds of tasks a high priority as well. If there is a way to weave leads and sales together, that's even better!

You could even use a simple ABC system, for example A for the most important, highest priority tasks, B for medium priorities and C for the nice to have priorities that are more like the icing on the cake.

Focus on high-priority items to ensure you're addressing critical aspects of your business first.

3. Create a Schedule

Develop a daily or weekly work schedule to allocate time for different activities. This includes tasks like brainstorming, writing out ideas, gathering and organizing tools and resources, creating content and promotion.

Get your family and friends used to keeping your distractions to a minimum during this time. Consider this your office hours, your time to work on your business.

4. Use Productivity Tools

Trello, Asana, Todolist, Google Workspace and Evernote are productivity tools that can help you organize your thoughts, tasks, schedules and projects as well as communicate with team members.

5. Delegate When Possible

Don't hesitate to delegate tasks that others can handle. This practice can give you more time to focus on your business and reduce stress, allowing you to focus on your strengths and high-impact activities.

6. Organize Your Workspace

Maintain a clean and organized workspace. Believe it or not this is number one on my list of how to get your business organized. Without this, no one can really reach their full potential. This goes for personal space as well as your office space.

Very few people can thrive in an environment that is messy, chaotic and unorganized. Having an organized space frees your mind to think outside the box and come up with creative ideas that will move your business forward.

Use tools like binders, bins, shelving and checklists to organize your workspace. If space is limited, consider using solutions on wheels that can fit nicely in closets or stow away in out of the way places.

Organizing can help reduce distractions and improve your overall focus and efficiency.

7. Utilize Blocks of Time

Designate blocks of time during your day, when you're not available. Whether it's an hour or more, let people know that unless it's an emergency, you're not available during your specific work hours.

Use these time blocks to the max by grouping similar tasks together and allocating specific time blocks for them. For example, it shouldn't take all day to create a piece of content.

Use time blocks to plan, gather resources and create. Set a timer for each phase, whether it's making a video, writing a blog post, hosting an event or creating a podcast episode.

Use blocks of time to batch produce when possible. So for example, create all your videos for the week in one sitting. It's totally possible to create five 10 minute videos in an hour.

For example, use an time block of one hour each to plan your videos, another to gather resources and do research, and one to actually shoot the videos. Finally use another one hour time block to promote and cross promote your videos on social media, pair it with other content and more.

The same process can be used for creating other types of content like blog posts and podcasts.

This can prevent constant context switching and improve concentration.

8. Take Regular Breaks

Take short breaks to refresh your mind. Stepping away from work periodically can prevent burnout and boost overall productivity.

9. Review and Reflect

Regularly review your progress and reflect on what's working well and what needs improvement. Adjust your strategies accordingly.

If you have a blog or eCommerce shop, use tools like Google Analytics to track your progress using data.
