When you start an online business, your days of thinking like an employee should become a thing of the past.

It's time to think like an owner, a real boss. However, in the beginning, it's so easy to become swept up in the "freedom" that working from home provides, that you totally neglect critical aspects of your business.

When you neglect critical aspects of your business, at some point you may stop making money. If you stop making money, your business becomes a hobby and not the money making profit machine needed to support your lifestyle and business goals.

This article is not about technology, it's about your daily activities and mindset and how both will affect your business.

The Big Question...

Do you have a daily routine for your business? If so, how is it working? Are your daily activities leading you to success? If not, how can you change what you’re doing to improve your results?

Believe it or not, many new home business owners fall into the trap of leaving the success of their business to chance. They think they have time, or they get so caught up in leaving the 9 to 5 that they totally neglect their business.

The other thing that happens is that now that there is no one standing over them, new business owners don't really know "what" to do.  They spend their day wasting time on social media because they think that blasting out their message to a lot of uninterested people will bring in loads of money.

Basic Business Task List

1. Build new and prospective customer relationships
2. Follow up with leads and customers
2. Implement Strategies and Tactics
3. Personal Development
4. Financial Management

They think that there is a "magic button" that they can push to open the flood gates and reach unlimited customers and money.

The reason I say this is because there are business owners that I talk to on a regular basis who wonder why their business is not taking off as they had hoped.

When we look into their daily activities, we find that they have great expectations, good intentions, as well as great ideas. The thing that’s missing is a plan or structure and consistency.

When Can We Expect You?

Without a consistent plan and consistency, your customers won’t know what to expect.

Imagine going to your favorite department store and finding that they don’t really have a specific time that they are open.

Managers and salespeople come and go, opening and closing whenever it’s convenient. In addition to their inconsistent hours, you find that sometimes they carry clothing and housewares, and at other times they carry groceries.

If you did business with an establishment like the one described above, you wouldn’t know what to expect.

And that is how customers and prospects feel too, when you're inconsistent. They need to know when to expect you to show up.

They also need an idea of how your business operates, and whether you have what they need to be successful.  It’s all about your customers and what they need.

Give Your Business Your Best

If you’ve ever been an employee, you are used to giving your best to help someone else reach their goals. Now that you’re working for yourself, you should keep that same momentum going when it comes to your business.

If you’re determined, with the right people, tools and information, you can get your business to where it needs to be. But please keep in mind that how you spend your day will have everything to do with the success of your online business.
