3. Choose a Niche or Area of Specialty

A niche market is an area of specialty, a segment of a larger market that can be defined by its own unique needs, preferences, or identity that makes it different.

Choosing a niche is a really important step when it comes to understanding your market and building a large, targeted audience of raving fans and loyal customers.

4. Choose a Product Related to Your Niche

Now that you've selected a niche, this next video will show you how to select products that are related to your hobbies, skills, interests and the niche you just selected.

Hopefully, you're starting to see how these topics build on each other to help you build a solid foundation for your business. 

Selecting a niche helps your business take shape with a focus that helps you zero in on your ideal customers and what they are looking for.

5. Select a Platform

Once you've chosen what you want your business to be about, you've chosen a niche and you've chosen a few products that you can promote, it's time to select a platform you can use to showcase your products and communicate with your audience and encourage them to become part of your community.

You have several options when it comes to a platform for your business. Based on the kind of business you want to start, one platform might be more beneficial than another. 

For example, my platform of choice is a self hosted WordPress blog, however you might decide to start a YouTube channel or a podcast to communicate with your audience.

If you're interested in selling products and services on your platform, you could start your own self hosted WordPress blog and set up a WooCommerce store.  That will enable you to share your knowledge, insight and expertise whole showcasing and selling products you have created. You can also promote other people's products on your blog. 

You can start a YouTube channel, a collection or group of videos you make and upload. Your channel will have a web address (URL) that you can promote on your website and marketing materials. People can subscribe to your channel so that they are notified when a new video is released.

Your videos should serve the needs of your ideal customers, helping them solve problems and get ideas that will help them improve their lives. YouTube is a very popular platform for anyone who wants to build an audience and make a connection that leads to engagement and sales.

You can also start a podcast, an episodic series of digital audio files that a user can download to a personal device for easy listening on the go. Podcasts are becoming more popular, especially for people on the go. It's an excellent way to communicate with your audience.

You can also open a shop on platforms like Etsy or Shopify to sell your products and services.

I always recommend starting with one platform, to avoid getting overwhelmed.  You can always add additional platforms as your business grows.

Once you've chosen a niche and a platform, you're on the way to building a thriving online business. But there's one thing you'll need to quickly reach your goals.

Without an audience of people who are interested in your business, you won't earn very much. You'll need a way to attract a targeted audience.

You'll need to find ways to promote your products and services in a way that sets you up for success. And that means learning how engage with people in your niche without spam, trolling on social media, making phone calls or arm twisting. 

You want to find people who are already buying products and services that are the same or similar to yours. And you don't want to have to convince people to buy from you. You don't want to waste time with people who are curious, but have no intention of ever buying your products. 

If you're in network marketing, you want to build a team that is ready to get results. Again, you don't want to twist arms or convince, you want people who can look at your presentation and self identify as someone who would benefit from working with you.
